Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali city to Volcanoes national park. Visit the Iby’iwacu cultural village.
Wake up early in the morning and have breakfast, the driver will pick you up and transfer you to Volcanoes National Park which is about 120km from Kigali city. In case you arrive in time, you will have a chance to visit the Iby’iwacu cultural village a unique and educational attraction found near volcanoes national park.
The cultural village gives you awesome insights into the traditions and lifestyle of the local people, particularly the Banyarwanda community. Witness cultural performances of traditional dances, songs, and storytelling by the local performances.
Enjoy other amenities like local cuisines, cultural exhibits, traditional medicines, and the Batwa experiences. After the tour, the driver will take you to your hotel or lodge to have dinner and enjoy an overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and twin lakes visit.
Have an early morning breakfast, the driver will pick you up and transfer you to the park headquarters to attend the pre-trekking briefing before you head out for gorilla trekking.
Under the guidance of an experienced guide, you are sent to the park to look for the magnificent apes, the activity can take about 2 to 5 hours depending on where they will be found.
Once you encounter your assigned gorilla family, you are given one hour to be in their presence at a close range and watch them play, feed, and interact with each other. Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park gives you a chance to see other animals like elephants, golden monkeys, and buffaloes.
After trekking, you can go back to the headquarters where the driver will pick you up and take you to the Twin Lakes. These lakes are Ruhondo and Burera and are famous for offering scenic and tranquil experiences for their visitors.
These twin lakes are located in the northern part of Rwanda near the Volcanoes National Park surrounded by lush and green hills giving you a stunning view of the Virunga volcanoes creating a beautiful natural backdrop.
While here, you can enjoy boat tours, hiking and trekking, bird watching, and picnicking as you fully relax.
After the twin lake tour, the driver will take you to your lodge or hotel to have dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Return to Kigali (optional city tour)
This marks the last day of your 3 days Rwanda gorilla trek, have an early morning breakfast and the driver will pick you and embark on the journey back to Kigali. Depending on the time you will reach the capital city, you will choose to either do a city tour or just proceed to Kigali airport for departure flight.
