Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Kigali to Virunga National Park
Start your day with a lip-smacking breakfast meal at the Lodge and then head to the park with a packed lunch, Gorilla trekking items, and documents. This is to energize you for a tiresome trek that lies ahead with chances of seeing other primates, and birds and identifying the different plant species in the Jungle. You will have a pre-trekking briefing at the trailhead at 07:00 am, by the ranger guides who will explain the life of the Gorillas, the trekking dos and don’ts, and the facts about the Virunga National Park. Research reveals that gorillas and men have a common ancestry, and share over 95% DNA.
They feed on vegetables, get water from the leaves and morning dew, and are shy creatures. They are the world’s strongest and largest primate species. Searching for the Gorilla family assigned to you involves walking around the forest, from the point where the primates were last spotted to where they are expected to be. These primates keep moving, in search of safe territory and what to feed on. However, when two families meet, there is often a fight for territory control by the Silverbacks.
The trekking session lasts for approximately 1-8 hours, plus an extra hour to spend in the presence of the apes, taking photos, watching the character of each member of the family, and more. After the hour’s experience, you will depart the lodge for refreshment, dinner, and a peaceful sleep.
If the activity ends early and you need more of the forest experience, our guide will be ready to make you uncover one of the largest and oldest national parks in the continent of Africa.
