Uganda is one of the leading safari destinations in Africa and is celebrated for its extraordinary wildernesses that are inhabited by various species of wildlife, especially the Big 5 animals. In addition to the Big 5, Uganda is also home to the endangered mountain gorillas that inhabit its southwest in the Bwindi National Park.
This safari will enable visitors to have a look at mountain gorillas in the forests of Bwindi and also have a safari experience in Lake Mburo National Park. The safari experience will come with exciting game drives through the National Park and a boat cruise on the breathtaking Lake Mburo.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Pick up from Kampala to lake Mburo National Park, Afternoon boat cruise.
A professional tourist guide will meet the guests at the hotel in Kampala, pick them up from the hotel with a tourist vehicle, and embark on the journey to the South of Uganda to Lake Mburo National Park which is approximately a five-hour journey. Check-in at the lodge on arrival and get served a mouthwatering lunch. After lunch, embark on the journey to the lake where you will have an interesting boat cruise on Lake Mburo after which the park is named.
The boat cruise will allow the visitor to view various species of animals that inhabit the National Park encompassing African buffaloes, zebras, Defassa waterbucks, Uganda Kobs, giraffes, elands, crocodiles, and hippos in the lake. Visitors will enjoy the boat cruise the entire afternoon and also have the views of the sunset at the lake which would make the trip unforgettable. Drive back to the lodge at dusk for dinner and stay for an overnight.
Day 2: Walking safari and game drive
An early meal will be served at the lodge very early in the morning. After, embark on the guided walking safari in the National Park with rangers that will provide extra protection and deep insights into the wilderness and the wild animals encountered. This activity will allow the visitor to view more of the animals in the park and the beautiful bird species in the trees and shrubs.
Enjoy the activity up to the mid-morning where you’ll head back to the lodge for relaxation. Retreat to the lodge and in the afternoon a mouth-watering lunch will be served. After lunch, embark on a guided game drive through the National Park Savannah grasslands where you would have opportunities to view more of the animals. The game drive will go on up to sunset where you will head back to the lodge for a mouth-watering dinner and be accommodated for the night.
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable National Park
A morning meal will be served at the lodge at dawn. After the meal, check out of the lodge and later embark on the journey South of the National Park to Bwindi impenetrable National Park which will take you roughly 6 hours and 40 minutes on the Mbarara – Kisoro highway. The journey will take you through the old towns in the South as you view other natural endowments of the country. On arrival at the lodge you’ll check in and head to your rooms.
Lunch will be served at the lodge a few minutes after you have checked in. Chill at the lodge in the evening as you view the forests under the birds therein. This will allow you to anticipate more of the forest that you will be yet to explore fully the next day. Dinner will be served later at sunset and you will have a peaceful overnight stay.
Day 4: Gorilla tracking and Batwa village tour
A mouthwatering breakfast will be served in the wee hours of the morning at the lodge. After breakfast, you will be briefed by the Rangers team at the National Park about the gorilla tracking activity. After the briefing, embark on the gorilla tracking activity in the jungle which will last about six hours. The six hours will be full of exploration of the jungle and encountering mountain gorillas in the forests.
Enjoy the moment as you take photographs that will help you remember the beautiful time in this forest with the gentle giants. Head back to the lodge after the gorilla tracking activity where you will be served a delicious lunch.
After lunch, embark on the drive to the local Batwa people villages. In their villages, you will have them demonstrate to you how they live in the forest including the famous experiment of making fire without matchboxes and any modern thing but with early man’s technology. The visit will also provide visitors with cultural entertainment and deeper interactions with the indigenous Batwa people. Head back to the lodge at sunset have yourselves served a mouth-watering dinner and stay for an overnight.
Day 5: Drive back to Kampala, end of tour.
Have a morning meal at the lodge. After checking out of the lodge embark on the drive to Kampala which is approximately a 9 hours’ journey.
There will be a lunch stop over at Kayabwe Equator spot where you will have the exciting feeling of being at the equilibrium point of the earth and enjoy the Coriolis effect as showcased by the locals at the spot. Enjoy the local meals at the restaurant and later continue with the journey back to Kampala.
