Mountain gorillas inhabit the thick tropical rainforests in East Africa, this trip will help the visitor explore the thick rainforests deeply and have encounters with mountain gorillas in the forests they’ve inhabited since their existence.
The trip will allow visitors to have a look at the gorillas in both Uganda and Rwanda which will make the trip an unforgettable one. This in addition to other adventures especially relaxation at the breathtaking lakes in the region and tours in the clean city of Kigali will further give extraordinary experiences.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Pick up from Entebbe to Bwindi impenetrable National Park.
You will be picked up from the hotel in Entebbe by a professional tour guide. Interact with the guide upon arrival and embark on the transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey will take you approximately 10 hours through the different landscapes of Uganda as you enjoy the lush vegetation and the breathtaking views of the highlands and lowlands on the way. You will have a stopover for lunch enroute and you will have an opportunity to taste roasted meat and delicious local dishes.
Continue to the journey up to Bwindi impenetrable National Park. On arrival at the National Park, you will sign in at the lodge and relax as you view the sunset and the forest from the lodge premises. Dinner will be served later and you will stay for an overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla tracking and evening relaxation at lake Mutanda.
Have a mouthwatering breakfast at the lodge before dawn. After breakfast, meet the Rangers of the National Park who will brief you on the dos and don’ts while on the gorilla tracking activity. After the briefing, continue to the jungle and explore as you track the mountain gorillas. The activity will take you about six hours that will ensure you have the best moments in the jungle with the gorillas. In the afternoon after the trek, head back to the lodge and get served a flavor some lunch.
After lunch, embark on the transfer to lake Mutanda which will take you approximately one hour and 10 minutes. Enjoy a canoeing experience at the lake as you view beautiful terraces in the vicinity and the beautiful birds flying over the lake. Enjoy the activity up to sunset where you will head back to the lodge for a peachy dinner and an overnight.
Day 3: Cross to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda through Cyanika border.
Breakfast will be served at the lodge before sunrise. After breakfast, sign out of the lodge and embark on the drive to volcanoes National Park which is roughly 2 hours and 40 minutes. The drive will take you through Cyanika border as you view the sights of the landforms of East Africa and the lush vegetation on the way which is quite picturesque. On arrival at the National Park, sign in at the lodge where you will be served lunch. After lunch, continue to your respective units at the lodge and relax.
Tour around the lodge in the evening and have therapeutic evening walks as you view the forest and its inhabitants especially birds and black and white colobus monkeys that normally visit the lodge. Dinner will be served later at sunset and you will stay for an overnight.
Day 4: Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park. Evening Musanze Town tour.
A morning meal will be served at the lodge at dawn. After the morning meal, get briefed by the Rangers team at the National Park before you embark on the tracking activity. It is in this briefing that you will know the rules and regulations that govern the activity and make it a peaceful one for the best adventures.
After the briefing, go tracking in the jungle where you have the opportunity to meet and marvel at the gentle giants in their natural habitat. When encountered, you will have a full hour for taking photographs, recording videos and learning more about the gorillas up close. In the afternoon, head back to the lodge where you’ll be served a delectable lunch.
After lunch, embark on the transfer to Musanze town, drive through the town and visit Inshuti Art and Cultural Center where you will have opportunities to view the very best artifacts of the Rwandan artists and an insight into the Banyarwanda culture. Drive to the lodge at dusk and you’ll be served a mouth watering dinner there and stay for an overnight.
Day 5: Leave volcanoes National Park to Kigali city. City tour and departure.
Have a mouth watering breakfast at the lodge in the early morning hours. After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the drive to Kigali city which will take you about two hours and 26 minutes. On arrival in the city, you’ll have an exciting city tour where you visit the top sites of Kigali genocide memorial and BK arena.
The visit to Kigali genocide memorial site will help you have an insight into what the genocide period cost the country and a visit to BK arena will help you participate in sports especially volleyball and basketball which will make the trip more exciting. Lunch will be served and later embark on the drive to Kigali International Airport for departure.
