In Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo, last-minute booking of gorilla trekking can be limited due to the high demand for permits and it might not be possible to get a permit at the last minute.

 

You are advised to book in advance to prevent inconveniences and it gives you a chance to fully prepare to trek a desired gorilla family in any sector within the park of your choice.

 

Last-minute booking is not advised because it doesn’t guarantee success for one to require a gorilla trekking permit, in that case, you are required to book in advance of either one month or more. This gives you time to fully prepare for this thrilling activity.

Process of booking a gorilla permit.

Booking a gorilla permit typically involves several steps in all countries of Uganda, Rwanda and DRC.

 

  • Choose your destination and the country that you would like to trek from such as Bwindi, Mgahinga, Virunga, volcanoes and Kahuzi-Beiga National Park in countries of Uganda, Rwanda and DRC respectively.

 

  • Make research and plan on which gorilla family that you will track, weather conditions and travel logistics.

 

  • Select the date on which you will be able to do your trekking. Different permits are issued for different dates so make sure you choose the date of your comfortability.

 

  • Contact the relevant Authority body depending on the country of gorilla trekking as they will lead you through the filling forms where you fill in your personal information and the process and payment options, once you pay, you will get a confirmation through your email or any other means.

 

  • On the day of your trekking, make sure you appear at the right place with all the necessary documents and be ready to be briefed about a few things.

 

  • After you show up with the required documents, you will then be allowed to go through the thickets and tropical rainforests searching for these magnificent primates.
