Mount Karisimbi is a famous volcano within the Virunga conservation area located in eastern Africa which was formed by tectonic activities in the east African rift valley, characterized by steep slopes and escarpments.
The mountain is located in Virunga national park which was established in the year 1,925 making it one of the oldest national parks in the whole of Africa. Karisimbi was formed as a result of tectonic activities within the rift valleys which created a series of deep valleys and mountains.
The volcanic eruptions created by pressure from the rising magma became too much resulting in a volcanic eruption releasing lava, ash, and gasses onto the surface forming volcanic cones.

Hiking mountain Karisimbi is an awesome activity and adventure, the mountain is located on the border of Rwanda and Congo and is one of the Virunga volcanoes and stands as the highest within Rwanda.
To hike this mountain,
You must have obtained a permit through the Rwanda Development Board where you get to decide your own dates, duration, and group size.
You are supposed to hire an experienced guide equipped with knowledge about hiking and safety navigation.
Dress in layers as you prepare for varying weather conditions, you can carry hiking boots, rain gear, and warm clothes.
The starting point is located in Musanze in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.
You should know that you’ll be camping along the way since climbing Karisimbi can take 2 to 3 days.
There are different routes to reach the summit but the Karisimbi trail is the most common and easiest one. You are supposed to follow the guidelines given to you and stay on designated paths.
You can pack drinking water and lunch because you need to stay hydrated and gain the energy lost while climbing.
Once you reach the summit, you are able to enjoy different breathtaking views of the surrounding areas.
During descending, you are supposed to descend carefully following the same route you used to ascend.

The best time to climb Mount Karisimbi is from June to September because it has relatively stable weather characterized by less rainfall and clear skies giving you an opportunity to see the surrounding areas.
Another time to hike Mount Karisimbi is from December to February, a short dry season for trekking.
